How To Determine Your Skin Type
Use the tissue method.
Wash your face well, removing dirt, oil, and makeup and then let your skin air-dry. DO NOT apply anything on it, leave it clean.
Wait for about 1-2 hours. Take a soft tissue and blot it on different parts of your face - forehead, nose, chin, cheeks. Wait about a minute and take a look at the tissue.
If there is a large oily stain on the tissue, the skin in this area is oily or, if not, the skin in this area is dry. If there is a very little oily stain on the tissue - the skin in this area is normal.
It is perfectly normal and healthy for the skin to produce oil - it works as a natural moisturizing agent but if the oil created by the sebaceous glands is too much - then, the glands are overproducing, which leads to clogged pores and shiny skin appearance.
If the skin feels tight and flaky right after you washed it and there are no traces of oil left on the tissue, then the skin is dry, so you’ll need to focus on moisturizing.
If you notice that the T-zone (the area surrounding the nose, the forehead and the chin) left oily stains on the tissue, then we’re talking about combination skin type (mix of oily and normal skin).
The skin is normal when, after applying the tissue, there are very little to no oily stains, while the facial skin appears healthy. You’ll be surprised to learn that having normal skin is rare because of multiple environmental factors, such as pollution, unhealthy lifestyle, lack of appropriate skincare etc.
