Is it Bad To Use Body Lotion on Your Face?

We asked a few people how to Is it bad to use body lotion on your face? and this is their answer.

1. Li Rong Yang, Human Resources

If you look at the ingredients of body creams and face creams, you’ll see that they are mostly similar. The differences are small because there’s only small differences between skin on the face and skin on the body, like the concentration of pores.

Even though skin care companies promote different products for different areas of the skin, it is actually one large organ (the largest in fact), therefore any product for one area of the skin should work on others as well.

Usually skin care lines don’t just have will not just have one face cream or body cream, they will have eye serum, day cream, night cream, spot serum, toner, etc. So the ingredients differ according to the purpose of the cream as well.

There’s strict regulations for anything applied on the body so anything approved to put on your body can be used on your face without harm as well, unless you have allergies. You might not want to get it in your eyes, not because it’s dangerous, but because it might hurt.

So you CAN use body cream on your face. Just don’t make a habit out of it :-)

It is not advisable to use products intended for use on the body, on the face.

Products developed for the body mostly include ingredients like fragrance, oils, minerals, metals, or pigments that may cause irritation or breakouts on the face. [Facial skin texture being thinner, filled with sebaceous glands, and thus more sensitive than skin on the body]

Additionally, most reputable cosmetics and personal care products companies submit their products for dermatological testing, ensuring safety against inflammation of the eye and lip areas. These are places where the skin is thinner, and naturally more sensitive than skin on the body. Body products are not able to pass safety for use on the face while containing ingredients designed for the body.

it's not necessarily really bad but it is not recommended. Body Cream shouldn't be used on your face because it is heavier and less sensitive then lotion used for the face. If you have sensitive skin you probably shouldn’t use body lotion on your face. The heaviness of body cream can clog your pores and weigh down your face rather than lotion specified for your face. Also, face lotion has specific ingredients for needs for your face.

4. Nina Mua, Esthetician

I wouldn’t recommend this, especially if it was made specifically for a different use. You don’t want to get any blemishes just from doing this mistake. What I would personally recommend is a Private Session. It’s a 3-hour one on one session with a makeup artist. You can make use of this time to learn all about skincare that will best suit your skin type, along with learning some makeup looks. You can also make use of this time to ask for product recommendations from a trusted expert.
