How To Get Long & Thick Hair According to Hair Care Experts

The only way you can make you hair grow really long is if you have the proper hair growth genetics.

Although I’ve managed to grow my hair to the top of my hips, it doesn’t seem to grow much past that length for me.

Maximum Hair Growth Length

Everyone not only has hair growth genetics, they also have a maximum hair growth length which some people refer to as a terminal growth length.

Hair has a scientifically proven growth cycle which includes hair fall.

The average human has a growth cycle which lasts approximately 7 years.

All Hair Has A Scientifically Proven Growth Cycle

Once hair has grown for 7 years, it will go into a dormant state and then fall out. That lost hair is replaced by new hair which is in the early stages of growth.

Some people have a hair growth cycle which is short and some have a longer cycle.

The reason for the differences? Genetics.

The Average Growth Cycle Is Seven Years

If your hair growth cycle is 7 years and your genetic annual growth is 6 inches per year, your maximum terminal growth length will be approximately 42 inches from your scalp to the ends.

That is equivalent to approximately 3 1/2 feet of total hair growth.

If you measure from your hair roots to 42 inches down, that is how long your hair has the potential of growing before it has reached its maximum potential.

How To Maximize Your Hair Growth

Even though every person is born with a genetically pre-determined hair growth cycle, there are ways to maximum that natural growth period.

You can maximum your natural hair growth cycles by adopting all the healthiest hair habits you can.

Those healthy habits include, but aren’t limited to eating a properly balanced diet with proteins, vitamins and nutrients.

It also includes getting proper sleep, exercise, hydration and minimize stress.

Excessive use of hair chemicals can actually damage hair to the point that it will never reach maximum length.

Ditto with excessive heat styling or other poor hair care habits.

How To Make Your Hair Grow Really Long

If you want your hair to reach it maximum terminal growth length adopt the following steps:

  1. Be patient and understand that your hair will grow as fast as it is genetically programmed.
  2. Most people grow hair at the rate of 1/2 inch per month or 6 inches per year. Some people may grow hair faster, some may grow it slower.
  3. There are no scientifically proven ways to speed hair growth beyond your genetic capabilities.
  4. Adopt all the very best hair care techniques possible.
  5. By treating your hair the best you can you will be able to maximize your hair growth cycles.
  6. If you abuse your hair with excessive chemicals, heat styling or other poor hair care choices, you may minimize your natural hair growth cycles.
  7. Live a healthy lifestyle which supports your hair’s natural growth cycles. This includes eating healthy, getting proper rest, relaxation and exercise.
  8. It also includes staying hydrating and minimizing stress.
  9. If you notice your hair has stopped growing or is falling out, immediately consult with an expert who can diagnose the cause of the loss and help you address it immediately.
  10. Appreciate your hair as it grows. Unless you have exceptional hair growth genes and an extended growth cycle your hair will probably never grow to your ankles.
  11. Appreciate whatever your terminal hair growth length is.
  12. A watched kettle never boils. Only measure your hair once a month. Even better? Every quarter is best.

Growing the longest hair you can is a journey and not a destination.

Please remember that genetics + hair growth cycles = terminal length.

Until genetic engineers figure out how to naturally grow human hair to the ankles it is what it is.

Best wishes to all.
