Is it Worth it to Spend More Money on High-End Skin Care Brands?

No.

When it comes to skincare, high-end products doesn’t necessarily mean better quality.

You’re not paying more for quality. You’re paying more for things such as brand positioning, advertising, celebrities endorsements, consumers research, and retail locations.

These expensive brands have access and use the same exact ingredients as cheaper ones.

You shouldn’t judge a product by its price tag, at least when it comes to beauty.

There are drugstore products that are just as good as super expensive ones. You won’t get better results, no matter what they claim on their flashy packaging.

Some “miracolous” serums can cost more than $300 for one ounce. One oz is not even enough for a month treatment. If you have $300+ to spend on beauty, I would recommend you do some botox instead.

With that being said, high end products usually have a more “elegant” formulation. They feel and smell amazing on the skin. This is because their formulations and fragrances have been tested on thousands of people; these companies spend $$$ to collect data on what customers like. They can also afford to patent and trademark some of their ingredients making consumers believe these ingredients are superior when they’re not.

Usually research done on these “magic” ingredients is scarce and in vitro only (=if something works on a bunch of cells in the lab doesn’t mean it is going to work the same way in vivo- the body is a way more complicated system).

You need to develop the knowledge that will allow you to pick the best beauty products based on ingredients and formulation.

Ingredients are formulation are what really matters.
